Natural health changed my life...
After a life-threatening allergic reaction to a medication in my early teens (Stevens-Johnson Syndromeâonly look it up if you have a strong stomach) I was left without support or options. Then someone suggested I see a naturopath.
That decision opened up a whole world of healing I didn't even know existed. The whole reason I was put on medication in the first place disappeared, and I saw further improvements in many other areas of my health and wellbeing. Â
This changed my life, as well as the course of my life. It's the reason I went on to study naturopathic and herbal medicine, so I could help others the way my naturopath helped me, and itâs the reason that I've spent the past decade doing what I do.
Â
Yet the wellness industry and I have a complicated relationship.
Even with a degree in natural health, I started to feel overwhelmed by the wellness industry and all the information out there... so many approaches, opinions, contradictions, and things we âshouldâ (or shouldnât!) be doing.
It wasn't until I'd been practising for a number of years, working with clients from all walks of life, ages, stages, and a whole range of health conditions, that something started to become really clear to me: No matter who we are or what is going on for us, we all need the foundations in place to be well.
Weâve been overcomplicating what it actually takes to get healthy.
My approach...
Â
I want to make getting healthy feel simple again, starting with the foundations:
Â
Nervous System Regulation
Your nervous system influences everything you think, feel and do, and all of the automatic processes in your body. It drives your bodyâs stress response, and whether you spend your days in fight or flight survival mode, or in rest, digest & repair mode.Â
The root cause of so many of our physical and mental health concerns is nervous system dysregulation. Understanding your nervous system and how you can best support it is essential if you want to live a happy, healthy life (ask me how I know!)
Nutrition
The food you eat builds and fuels your body, so without adequate nutrition, you simply cannot thrive. End of story. And no, you donât need to eat âperfectly healthyâ (in fact, you should never aim to be perfectly anything!)
Knowing what your body actually needs and basing the majority of your diet on this is enough. You can still enjoy food and eat for pleasure every now and then whilst also being healthy⌠again, ask me how I know đ
Lifestyle
Your lifestyle influences your nervous system, as well as all other systems in your body. This includes how you sleep & rest (yes, theyâre two different things), how you move your body, what your daily routine looks like, how aligned with nature youâre living, the list goes on.Â
Again, you donât need a âperfectâ life with âperfectâ routines and rituals. You donât need to run away and live in the forest, living off the earth (although wouldnât that be lovely). You also donât need to spend oodles of time focusing on your health. You just need to nail the basics, and use your time wisely, focusing on the right areas.Â
These are the key areas I focus on in my work.Â
Sometimes the foundations are all we need. Other times, theyâll get us most of the way there. But we canât ignore them.
Because when you get the foundations right, you then have a solid base to build upon.
My passion is guiding you to learn what these foundations are, and how you can (easily) apply them in your life.
IÂ want to help you realise that getting healthy doesnât need to feel overwhelming or complicated.Â
